JAKARTA (MKRI) The Constitutional Court of the Republic of Indonesia (MKRI) celebrated its 20th anniversary by holding a flag-hoisting ceremony at the courtyard of its second building in Jakarta on Sunday morning, August 13, 2023.

The ceremony was led by the Chief Justice Anwar Usman and was followed by the other eight constitutional justices, civil servants, and non-civil servants in the Registrar’s Office and the Secretariat-General of the Constitutional Court. The chief justice first expressed gratitude for the end of the COVID-19 pandemic that this year’s ceremony could be held face-to-face.

“Last year, the anniversary ceremony and celebration was [face-to-face] amid the COVID-19 pandemic by implementing health protocol. Alhamdulillah (thank God), this year the COVID storm has passed so we can gather again normally,” he said.

Maintain Fitness and Work Culture

Chief Justice Anwar also give directions on institutional management to anticipate past, current, and future events to maintain and improve institutional performance, such as the 2024 simultaneous general election (“pemilu”), which will pose different challenges from the previous simultaneous election in 2019. the 2024 election, he said, will be followed by simultaneous regional election throughout Indonesia, so it is important that the Court’s employees maintain stamina and health.

He also reminded employees to uphold work culture that the Court has built and maintained such as through reward and punishment.

“I understand that state civil apparatuses (ASN) management have mechanisms and procedures that have been standardized by the state. However, this does not mean that institutions cannot play their role in providing rewards and punishments,” he said.

Therefore, he continued, Court officials and leaders must objectively assess each employee’s performance. However, the assessment should not be subjective. Employees who make mistakes should not escape punishment.

“The Court remains consistent in applying the principle of justice for all,” he asserted.

Chief Justice Anwar also congratulated employees awarded with civil servants’ long service medals Satyalancana Karya Satya for their 10-year, 20-year, and 30-year service. The award reflects the state’s appreciation of their dedication to the nation and state.
