JAKARTA (MKRI) — Representatives of the National Archives of the Republic of Indonesia (ANRI) visited the Constitutional Court (MK) for a risk assessment on Thursday, August 3, 2023. The assessment was done on the Court’s first decision, which had been stored at Pojok ANRI (ANRI Corner) at the Constitution History Center (Puskon) on the 6th floor of the Court’s building since 2021.

Archivists coordinator Kasiman, head of the Archive and Expedition Division Kin Isura Ginting, and a number of Court archivists welcomed the ANRI representatives in the delegation room on the 4th floor of the Court’s main building. After reviewing the archives, ANRI archivist Fitra Yeni conveyed some simple notes for the Court to consider in its long-term preservation efforts.

“The lighting for the archive should be reduced from 200 to 50 lux only, and it is also necessary to pay attention to silica gel that has changed color due to unstable humidity of the storage room. Besides that, the standard temperature should also be taken into account through regular or manual recording to find out fluctuations in temperature and humidity,” said Fitra alongside other ANRI archivist Achmad Dedi Faozi, Kismadi, Ayu Syafnita, Ali Purnomo, Taufik Nur Huda, and Tasum.

After receiving these notes, Kasiman mentioned that ANRI could provide an evaluation and the results in writing for the Court to make concrete follow-up in the future. He also hoped that the cooperation between the Constitutional Court and ANRI would be even closer so that the abundant archives in the Court would not only become a pile of files, but would provide value for the history of law and the Constitution.

Since 2006, the Constitutional Court has been handing over some of the management of its archives to ANRI, so that they can be passed on to generations throughout the ages. This will hopefully inspire ANRI and other state institutions to be more active in classifying archives according to their authenticity. Although digital technology is developing growing rapidly, authentic physical archives are still needed. The preservation of archives aligns with the provisions of the Government Regulation of the Republic of Indonesia No. 28 of 2012 on the Implementation of Law No. 43 of 2009 on Archives and the Regulation of the Head of ANRI No. 23 of 2011 on Guidelines for the Preservation of Static Archives.
