JAKARTA (MKRI) — The Association of Law Schools of the Republic of Korea visited the Constitutional Court (MK) on Tuesday morning, June 27, 2023 and was welcomed by Chief Justice Anwar Usman. The association’s president, Lee Sang Kyeong, expressed his wish to discuss the system of constitutional jurisdiction in Indonesia and South Korea.

“Thank you for welcoming us. We are deans of universities in South Korea. We would like to have the opportunity to discuss the system of the constitutional courts in both [Indonesia and South Korea] and to maintain diplomatic relations between the Republic of Indonesia and the Republic of Korea. We would also like to learn about the developments in the Constitutional Court of Indonesia,” he explained.

In response, Chief Justice Anwar Usman expressed his hope that the discussion would continue with follow-up activities, as the MKRI also needs opinions and recommendations from academics. He also hoped that the visit would strengthen relations between constitutional courts all over Asia.

“[Your association] can share experience of the Constitutional Court in [South Korea] and [South Korea’s] approach to law. In addition, thank you for your visit and hopefully together we can move constitutional courts all over Asia and improve relations between constitutional courts all over Asia,” he said alongside Head of the Administration of Leadership and Protocol Department Budi Wijayanto, Head of the International Affairs Division Immanuel Bungkulan Binsar Hutasoit, and advisor to constitutional justice . Lutfi Chakim.

After the discussion, the Korean delegation was taken to tour the Court’s Constitution History Center (Puskon) at the fifth and sixth floors of its main building. The center documents the dynamic history of the Constitution and Constitutional Court of Indonesia through information, art, and technology.
