BOGOR (MKRI) — The Constitutional Court (MK) organized another meeting for the drafting of new chief justice regulations (PKMKs) for the resolution of disputes over the results of presidential and legislative election (PHPU) of 2024 on Thursday, June 15, 2023 in Bogor, West Java Province. The meeting was opened directly by the Deputy Chief Justice Saldi Isra alongside Secretary-General Heru Setiawan and Chief Registrar Muhidin.
In his opening remarks, Deputy Chief Justice Saldi said currently the Court was trying to start focusing on things that it did not focus on in the past.
“I am taking an inventory of what must be completed immediately, especially in terms of case handling. Then the structure in the Registrar’s Office will also be addressed immediately. After that there will also be the addition of expert assistants/advisors to constitutional justices and their position will be formulated clearly. That is one of the things to do. How the relationship between these advisors and the justices must be managed better. The plan is that after this I will meet with substitute registrars and these advisors to formulate this. However, it must be done immediately,” he said.
He believes the Court’s core business process is the completion of decisions. All elements in the office must work to strengthen that core business. “I understand very well that it cannot be rushed. The chief justice asked me to work on it. I do it slowly because going fast is difficult. It must also be organized better,” he explained.
At the end of his remarks, Justice Saldi hoped this meeting could resolve existing problems so the Court could move on to the next process, i.e. internal consolidation so that PKMKs could be applied by the taskforce to handle PHPU in 2024. “I am sure that after this, other things will be completed. There are SOPs for receiving cases, for IT, and so on. If this has been completed, we can move forward to prepare for future election disputes. I am somewhat more obsessed with how to be better prepared for the 2024 election disputes,” he said.
The meeting will take place for three days from Thursday to Saturday, June 15-17, 2023 in Bogor with 62 participants in attendance. It will discuss PKMK drafts on the resolution of disputes over the results of the election of the president and vice president, members of the House of Representatives (DPR), Regional Representatives Council (DPD), and Regional Legislative Council (DPRD).
