BOGOR (MKRI) — The workshop on the procedural law for the 2024 General Election Results Dispute (PHPU) for the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) was officially closed on Thursday, May 11, 2023 at the Pancasila and Constitution Education Center (Pusdik) in Bogor, West Java Province. Acting head of the center, Elisabeth, said in her remarks while representing the secretary-general that election is the means to implement popular sovereignty and enforcing democracy.

She said the workshop was driven by the Court’s commitment to implementing its authority in handling PHPU cases and also determined by the litigating parties’ understanding. The participants had received important materials relating to PHPU resolution and were expected to understand the procedure to litigate in the Court.

Meanwhile, the PKS’ central executive board (DPP) deputy secretary-general for legal affairs and advocacy, Zainuddin Paru, said that the center was a relaxing and enlightening place for the participants, who then were able to remain spirited to follow the workshop. He praised the workshop as the best opportunity for all political party members to learn more about advocacy.

“This is the last day [of the event]. Hopefully this is not the end of our learning process of more things about working and advocating for election results disputes,” he said.

Zainuddin also said the workshop was invaluable for PKS in anticipating the 2024 election. He hoped PKS would not have to litigate in the Constitutional Court due to electoral violations. However, such violations always occur and impact the votes, leading to disputes. In PHPU cases since 2004, PKS has managed to ensure the return of manipulated votes.

“Issues occur in all levels, so political maturity is key for leaders—be it the president, the members of the House, provincial and regency/city DPRD.

Previously, Alex Pigai of PKS’ Central Papua territorial executive board (DPW), said on behalf of the participants that the workshop was beneficial for PKS in facing potential PHPU cases in the 2024 election. He added that the materials helped the participants understand the procedural law for PHPU.

The 2024 PHPU workshop took place for four days on Monday to Thursday, May 8-11, 2023 at the Pancasila and Constitution Education Center (Pusdik) in Bogor, West Java Province. The participants—138 PKS members—listened to presentations on the Court’s procedural law on the 2024 election; the mechanism, stages, and schedule of the 2024 PHPU; electronic case management information system; etc. They also practiced the materials they have received. Constitutional justices, expert assistants to constitutional justices, substitute registrars, expert assistants to constitutional justices, and other speakers will deliver presentations at the event.
