JAKARTA (MKRI) — The Constitutional Court’s (MK) Library held an accreditation assessment, which was performed by the National Library’s assessors, on Wednesday, May 10, 2023 at the second building’s hall. The event was conducted to celebrate the library’s better services and compliance to guidelines as part of the internationalization of the library. Structural and functional officials, other staff members, and the National Library’s assessors attended the event.

In his speech, Heru said that the Court’s Library is an integral party of the supporting system for case management in the Court. The Court needs reliable references to support its function as a judicial institution that adjudicates constitutional cases based on constitutional law arguments and the Constitution and the support of theories from various disciplines.

Therefore, since the beginning of the Court’s foundation during the tenure of the first chief justice Jimly Asshiddiqie, the Court’s Library has had the ideal to become a library that can support and be beneficial for the Court and the public. Rapport between Jimly and Mastini Hardjoprakoso, head of the National Library in the early days, contributed to the development of the Court’s library during the early days of its service.

Jimly, Heru said, had the vision to make the Court’s Library the biggest legal library in the country. He listed the National Library’s help to realize that wish.

Heru also explained that cooperation between the Court and the National Library has been ongoing. The also expressed his appreciation for the National Library’s assessors with the hopes that the Court’s Library, along with its facilities, could meet all the requirements for the accreditation to become a special library.

He hoped that, in addition to making an assessment, the assessors would provide inputs and direction to the Court’s Library so that it will become a nationally-, and even internationally-, standardized legal library

“The Constitutional Court’s Library intends to be a library of a high standard to support and fulfill the needs of case management in the Constitutional Court and to become a source of legal references in Indonesia, as is envisioned by Prof. Jimly and all of us in the Court,” he said.

Meanwhile, Director for Standardization and Accreditation at the National Library Supriyanto said on behalf of the assessors that libraries must follow standards. The National Library to his directorate had formulated standards for national libraries. “There are school libraries, provincial libraries, regency/city libraries, and special libraries,” he said.

He further explained that in addition to creating library standards for accelerating accreditation, his directorate had accredited libraries in state institutions. He appreciated the Court’s enthusiasm for the accreditation and thanked the Court’s leadership for supporting the Court’s Library in preparing for the accreditation.
