TANGERANG (MKRI) — The Constitutional Court (MK) held a meeting for the drafting of new chief justice regulations (PKMKs) for the resolution of disputes over the results of presidential and legislative election of 2024 on Thursday, May 4, 2023 in Tangerang, Banten Province. Chief Justice Anwar Usman opened the meeting officially alongside Acting Secretary-General Heru Setiawan and Chief Registrar Muhidin.
In his opening remarks, the chief justice said that the Court had anticipated the 2024 Simultaneous Election. Later on, when examining election results dispute (PHPU) cases, the taskforce team would find it easier to identify violations and decide the most appropriate course of action.
He also said that the PKMKs would regulate technical matters. “These technical matters should be evaluated and anticipated, to prevent loopholes for those with negative intentions. They might not affect the case substance, but public perception could see otherwise,” he said.
He also hoped the meeting could not only anticipate but also optimize 2024 PHPU resolution. “Of course, we do not want the upcoming election results dispute resolution to not exceed the one before. Therefore, contributions by all meeting participants hopefully will explain the detailed evaluation on the 2019 election results dispute resolution, which will be formulated in the PKMKs,” he stressed.
2019 Election vs 2024 Election
Meanwhile, Chief Registrar Muhidin said that, as the guardian of democracy, the Court had guarded the constitutional democracy by ruling hundreds of PHPU cases in 2019. “In 2019, sixteen national parties and four Aceh local parties participated in election. Thirty-four provinces participated in election and the Court received 331 petitions. Meanwhile, in 2024, there will be eighteen national parties and six Aceh local parties, and thirty-eight provinces in the election,” he explained.
Therefore, he said that the Court has to prepare all things ahead of the PHPU well. “The election will be a milestone for Indonesia. Therefore, the Court, who is authorized to resolve PHPU cases, must handle them optimally,” he stressed.
