JAKARTA (MKRI) — The Constitutional Court (MK) held a ceremony to commemorate the 94th National Mother’s Day at the front yard of the Court’s second building on Thursday, December 22, 2022. The ceremony, which was under the theme “Empowered Women, Onward Indonesia,” was led by the AACC Permanent Secretariat and International Relations Department Sri Handayani. Structural and functional officials and all staff of the Court attended the ceremony virtually and on-site.
Reading out the speech by Minister of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection (PPPA) I Gusti Ayu Bintang Puspayoga, she said that Mother’s Day is based on the determination and fight by women to realize independence as declared for the first time in the Women’s Congress on December 28, 1928 in Yogyakarta. The date was officially made the national Mother’s Day by President Soekarno through Presidential Decree No. 316 of 1959.
“The meaning of Mother’s Day in Indonesia is different from that in other countries, since in Indonesia, it marks the struggle, history, and fight of Indonesian women. Therefore, let us keep working. Empowered women, onward Indonesia,” she said.
