AMSTERDAM (MKRI) — Head of the International Affairs Division Immanuel Hutasoit represented the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Indonesia (MKRI) at the “Indonesia Now” Conference on Thursday, December 1, 2022 at Vlaams Cultuurhuis de Brakke Grond, Amsterdam, the Netherlands. At, the event, organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia and the Government of the Netherlands, Hutasoit delivered a presentation during a session on “Indonesia-Netherlands Collaboration in the Field of Legal and Law-Related Education.”
Hutasoit, who is also the chairman of the Studeren in Nederland alumni association, spoke at the conference as part of a series of Knowledge Exchange Visit to the Netherlands to commemorate the 70th anniversary of NUFFIC, the Dutch organization for internationalization in education.
In his presentation, Hutasoit explained the main tasks, functions, and activities of the MKRI in global forums, such as founding the Association of Asian Constitutional Courts and Equivalent Institutions (AACC) and being one of its permanent secretariats, and being a member of the Bureau of the World Conference on Constitutional Justice (WCCJ) and hosted its fifth congress. The MKRI’s latest role, he said, is founding the forum for the constitutional jurisdictions of Islamic Cooperation Organization member states, planned for inauguration at the end of December 2022 under the name the Conference of Constitutional Jurisdictions of the Islamic World.
He also revealed that since 2017, the MKRI has been working with several universities in the Netherlands, including with Nuffic Neso (Nederland Education Support Office) in Indonesia.
“The MKRI’s broad global role is a sign that it is very open to international collaboration in order to share and study how the constitution is upheld in various parts of the world, including in the Netherlands,” he said.
In the conference, which was officially opened by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia Retno Marsudi, Hutasoit sat on a panel with Prof. Adriaan Bedner (Van Vollenhoven Institute-Leiden University) and Emily van Rheenen (Centre for International Legal Cooperation), with moderator Marieke Nieuwendijk (Nuffic).
“Indonesia Now” was held to strengthen collaboration between Indonesia and the Netherlands as well as to explore Indonesia’s strategic role in the Pacific. The conference was expected to encourage academics, civil societies, policy makers, private companies, and creative economy actors to initiate and explore the possibility of collaborative cooperation in the future.
