ARLINGTON (MKRI) — In an effort to increase the capacity and capability its staff members, the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Indonesia (MKRI) collaborated with the National Center for State Courts (NCSC) through the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Monday, December 5, 2022 in Arlington, Virginia, United States of America.

The document was signed by Heru Setiawan, acting secretary-general of the Constitutional Court, and NCSC’s vice president for International Relations Jeffrey A. Apperson, and witnessed by Constitutional Justices Saldi Isra and M. Guntur Hamzah.

For more than 50 years, the NCSC has shared authoritative knowledge and expertise to address current and emerging issues and trends in state court administration. The non-profit organization is the only organization that enjoys collaborative relationships with the Conference of Chief Justices, Conference of State Court Administrators and other associations of judicial leaders. It is also one of the four founders of the International Consortium for Court Excellence (ICCE).

The MKRI and the NCSC collaborate to support the development and implementation of training programs and to promote modern judicial administration and best practices in the MKRI. One of the human resource development programs to be carried out with the NCSC is a recharging program for MKRI employees. The tailor-made program consists of academic learning and practice in classroom as well as visits to various judicial institutions in the United States, such as the United States Supreme Court and the Federal Judicial Center.

“We hope this program can combine classroom learning and visits to various judicial institutions so that our employees will have vast experience of the working practices of judicial institutions in the United States,” said Constitutional Justice Saldi Isra who led the MKRI delegation.

The recharging program with the NCSC is planned to start next year. With this program, hopefully the MKRI will have increasingly qualified human resources to support the implementation of its duties and functions in upholding the Constitution, particularly in providing support to constitutional justices.
