JAKARTA (MKRI)—The Constitutional Court (MK) held a flag-hoisting ceremony to commemorate the 94th anniversary of the Youth Pledge on Friday, October 28, 2022. The ceremony took place both on site and virtually from the yard of the second building of the Court. Structural officials, senior and junior deputy registrars, as well as senior and junior functional officials attended the ceremony on site while the rest did virtually. Head of the General Affairs Bureau Elisabeth led the ceremony and read out the speech by the Youth and Sports Minister Zainudin Amali. She said the ceremony commemorated the history that must be contemplated and studied to serve as an inspiration towards a great nation.
“The Youth Pledge of October 28, 1928 taught us how to respond to differences in primordial attitudes, ethnicity, religion, race and culture, as well as various interests to become a strength, not a weakness. History has shown that the choice of the youth at that time became a milestone towards independence. The role of the youth in pioneering a national vision with the Youth Pledge of 1928 followed by a series of movements led to the proclamation of Indonesia’s independence. The role of the youth was recorded throughout the ages,” she read out.
The commemoration, she added, was always important amidst threats to Indonesia’s unity towards its goals. This year’s theme for the celebration was “United to Build the Nation,” which suggested that unity is a prerequisite to a resilient, powerful, and developed nation. It must be a reflection of the values of the Youth Pledge today and in the future.
“We have the grit to continue the fight for independence to realize the nation’s goals today and in the future. We have the spirit to develop Indonesia that is independent, sovereign, united, fair, and prosperous dynamically following the everchanging environment,” she stressed.
Elisabeth emphasized that today’s youth would be important figures in the future and what the youth do today would determine the nation’s direction in the future. Today’s youth must prioritize unity and see diversity as a valuable gift and strength towards a great Indonesia. The youth are not only important actors in building national resilience to realize the vision of Golden Indonesia of 2045, but are also the backbone of the nation’s success throughout the ages.
She also explained that national resilience is built through building noble characters as well as developing competencies, creativity, and innovation. This is so that the nation can compete globally.
“We must be thankful that Indonesia’s youth have achieved so much both nationally and internationally. This will be an asset for Indonesia’s advancement. However, we have concerns over youth unemployment and destructive behavior. Therefore, youth empowerment and development towards creative, innovative, collaborative, and independent individuals with character must continue to be improved so that our youth can overcome hardship and make great achievements,” she said.
From the capital city, the Youth and Sports Minister encouraged all elements of the nation to build their strength and encourage the youth to develop their potential. Collaboration between stakeholders must be improved because development cannot be done individually or partially.
“Ladies and gentlemen, let us make this 94th anniversary of the Youth Pledge a moment to boost our spirit to develop the nation. May the One Supreme God bless us with strength to develop the nation and achieve the nation’s goals,” Elisabeth concluded.
