JAKARTA (MKRI)—The Constitutional Court (MK) handed over static archives to the National Archives of the Republic of Indonesia (ANRI) on Wednesday, October 19, 2022. Secretary-General M. Guntur Hamzah conferred the archives to the Head of ANRI Imam Gunarto at ANRI building, Jakarta. A handover report was also signed during the event.
In his speech, Guntur revealed that the 22nd handover showed the Court’s commitment to archiving procedure in order to preserve national archives. He believes national archives, which record the nation’s history, must be handed over to the authority mandated to preserve them.
“Today the Constitutional Court handed over 42 boxes of textual documents, 7 videos, and 1 USB flash drive. The Court hopes that digital transformation will continue to improve so that archive handover will be more practical and not needing physical handover but through a digital portal. The archive boxes contain petitions, lists of evidence, and decisions. We [hand them over] to realize accountability of the Court’s business process according to the existing regulation,” he said.
Physical Archives Remain Authentic
Welcoming the Court’s delegation, Imam Gunarto said that it was an honor for ANRI to receive archives from the Court in 2022. He stressed that the archives could be a historical record for the next generations to come. Since 2006, the Court has been handing over its archives to ANRI so that they could be kept for future generations. This hopefully would inspire ANRI and other institutions to improve their archival classification based on authenticity. Despite rapid developments of digital technology, he added, authentic archives are still needed.
“For this reason, ANRI is following training programs for improving its management of static archives. It hopes to assess the Court’s archives, which consist of petitions, evidence, and decisions,” he said.
