BOGOR (MKRI)—Deputy Chief Justice Aswanto closed the constitution awareness program for citizens (PPHKWN) for Majelis Adat Kerajaan Nusantara (MAKN) on Thursday morning, September 22, 2022, which was held on site at Grha Konstitusi 3, the Constitutional Court’s (MK) Pancasila and Constitution Education Center (Pusdik), Cisarua, Bogor. One hundred and twenty-five participants attended the event.

“Hopefully this event would not be the last, because the Constitutional Court as the guardian of the Constitution will conserve the customs of Nusantara. I wish good health for all of us so that we can guard our beloved country,” he said.

The deputy chief justice said the Constitution guarantees the rights of indigenous peoples in Article 18 of the 1945 Constitution. Therefore, aside from guarding the Constitution, the Constitutional Court “safeguards the cultures and customs, on which the Constitution is based, which is one of the Court’s functions. Therefore, Majelis Adat Kerajaan Nusantara must be guarded by the Court, as it is a manifestation of guarding the Constitution. This is one of the Court’s functions, since the nation’s kingdoms had a hand in Indonesia’s independence,” he explained.

He said the PPHKWN was special because the participants were excellencies who had great contribution to the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia. “So, we will provide the best services for you, including accommodation,” he said.

He added that MAKN was one of the initiators of the fight for human rights. He said that human rights in Indonesia must be fought for, even though guaranteed by the Constitution.

“Many people might feel their rights have not been safeguarded, but they do not know how to fight for their rights. I believe the Government will suffer losses if it does not appreciate MAKN. I have been following the development of MAKN, whose members are kings who have extraordinary authority. I think MAKN must take strategic roles for the state. The Constitutional Court will offer full support according to the Constitution,” Deputy Chief Justice Aswanto stressed.

He added that MAKN would continue its active role in safeguarding Indonesia. “To us, Bhinneka Tunggal Ika reflects our diversity but unity with the Government to encourage fighters from all over the country to safeguard the country,” he stressed.

The PPHWKN, with 120 participants in attendance, took place for four days on Monday-Thursday, September 19-22, 2022 on site at Pusdik.
