JAKARTA (MKRI)—The Constitutional Court (MK) welcomed the participants of the national young leader training (PKPMN) Batch III of the Ministry of Youth and Sports on Wednesday, September 21, 2022. The training was collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

Head of the Public Relations and Protocol Bureau Heru Setiawan welcomed the participants on behalf of the Court and expressed is hope that the visit would help them learn more about the roles and functions of the Constitutional Court in the state administration.

“Hopefully the PKPMN to the Constitutional Court will be highly beneficial, at least to expand [the participants’] knowledge and insight on the Court’s history, the history of the Constitution, the roles and functions of the Constitutional Court, and the ease to file a petition to the Court. Such information is crucial because the youth will continue the state leadership, so they must learn the Constitution as early as possible,” he said.

He added that youth is the key to the state’s direction. Indonesia’s future falls on the hands of the youth. The youth will bring about change.

“If the youth is good, the changes they bring about will be too. So, the future of a nation is determined by its youth,” he said.

Meanwhile, Acting Deputy Assistant for Youth Leadership and Pioneering Mustadin Taggala said he brought 100 young leaders, who had been selected out of 1,422 youths registering for the program in 2022, 1,020 registering online while 420 came from the provincial Youth and Sports Office and organizations such as youth social organization (OKP), student executive bodies (BEM), and talent organizations. Some were winners of outstanding youth competitions, influencers, and youths with disability.

Next, expert assistant to constitutional justice M. Luthfi Chakim delivered a presentation on “The Constitutional Court in the Administration System.” He revealed the history of the establishment of the Constitutional Court in Indonesia.

“The idea of the establishment of the Constitutional Court started when the founding fathers drafted the Constitution. First, Moh. Yamin as a member of the BPUPKI proposed that the Supreme Court be given the authority to review laws, but Soepomo did not agree because the Constitution did not follow trias politica and because there were not many law graduates with such experience,” he said.

Meanwhile, expert assistant to constitutional justice Muhammad Reza Winata talked about “The Characteristics of Procedural Laws and the Ease of Litigating in the Constitutional Court.” He said the Court’s procedural laws are a fundamental tool to fighting for the material law of all laws.

After the presentations concluded, the participants visited the Constitution History Center (Puskon) on the fifth and sixth floors of the Court. Puskon documents the history of the Constitution and the Constitutional Court through a combination of information, art, and technology. It serves to help visitors understand the values of the Constitution and its history.

The national young leader training (PKPMN) is the Government’s effort through the Ministry of Youth and Sports to generate future leaders. Batch III of the PKPMN was one of the Ministry’s priority programs to support and encourage youth leadership through instilling Pancasila ideology and the characters and cultures of tentation in the youth.
