JAKARTA (MKRI)—The Constitutional Court (MK) and Maastricht School of Management (MSM) agreed to extend their cooperation for the capacity development of the Court’s staff members. The memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed virtually on Tuesday, September 6, 2022. Indonesia’s Ambassador for the Netherlands Mayerfas, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Director for Legal Affairs and Political and Security Treaties Purnomo Achmad Chandra, diplomat at the Dutch Embassy Indonesia Sophie Anne van Huut, and scholarship coordinator of Nuffic Neso Indonesia Indy Hardono also attended the signing.

In his remarks, Secretary-General M. Guntur Hamzah said the cooperation between the Court and MSM had started with the signing of a memorandum of cooperation and an internship in 2019. As the MoC expired, both institutions extended their cooperation, which is in effect since August 31, 2022 until 2026.

“Although the Constitutional Court is a judicial institution that operates in the realm of law, [it has] employees with non-law education backgrounds who are also important pillars in realizing the Constitutional Court’s vision as a modern and trusted judicial institution. Therefore, it is necessary for the Court employees to have modern mindset, work culture, and work behaviors. Through this collaboration, hopefully MSM can provide training, education, and capacity development for the Court employees who have non-legal education backgrounds,” said Guntur alongside Head of the Public Relations and Protocol Bureau Heru Setiawan and Head of the AACC Permanent Secretariat and International Relations Department Sri Handayani from the meeting room of the Court in Jakarta.

Meinhard Gans, CEO and Dean of MSM, welcomed the collaboration and said it could serve as an encouragement for MSM to further improve its quality of education and facilities. The MoU was signed by Gans and Secretary-General M. Guntur Hamzah electronically. At the end of the event, the participants were treated to video showing the 2019 internship program for the Court’s staff members at MSM.

The first MoC between the Registrar’s Office and the Secretariat-General of the Constitutional Court and MSM was signed in Maastricht, the Netherlands on October 9, 2018 by Secretary-General M. Guntur Hamzah and Meinhard Gans. The two institutions agreed to cooperate for various activities, including employee competency improvement programs through internships, executive courses, training, seminars, and applied research. They also agreed to exchange experts in governance, management, and law and democracy in collaboration with Maastricht University’s Faculty of Law. To date, the Constitutional Court has sent 12 staff members to participate in internship programs at MSM throughout 2018–2019.
