JAKARTA (MKRI)—The Secretary-General of the Constitutional Court (MK) M. Guntur Hamzah inaugurated 25 civil servants (PNS) as expert assistants of the constitutional justices on Wednesday, August 31, 2022. They had previously had functional positions as researchers.

“On behalf of the Registrar’s Office and the Secretariat-General, I would like to congratulate [our expert assistants] who had transformed from researchers into expert assistants of constitutional justices, the only of its kind in the country,” he said in his remarks.

He revealed that the inauguration was based on the Regulation of the Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform Ministry No. 40 of 2022 on the Functional Position of Expert Assistants of Constitutional Justices and based on the Decree of the Secretary-General of the Constitutional Court No. 391 of 2022.

Guntur concluded his remarks by expressing hope that the newly-inaugurated expert assistants would assist in the training of future constitutional justices since they have learned to become statesmen. “You provide knowledge to our constitutional justices,” he said. However, he advised against feeling burdened and asked them to work as usual and keep working in the right path.

The 25 newly-inaugurated expert assistants were researchers who assisted the constitutional justices. The changes to the Constitutional Court’s structure allowed researchers who met the requirements to be appointed expert assistants of constitutional justices, who provide assistance and substantive support to the justices. The nomenclature was proposed by the constitutional justices at a justice deliberation meeting (RPH) by taking into account the researchers’ duties and functions. The newly-inaugurated expert assistants are also subject to credit score requirements to gain promotion to intermediate, middle-rank, and senior positions, just like other functional positions.
