JAKARTA, Public Relations—Technological advances brings challenges and threats to the nation because of the fast flow of information. Provocative information, hoaxes, and post-truth statements are likely to arise. Therefore, students of the national police academy (Akpol), part of Indonesia’s younger generation, must use social media responsibly amid the inevitable flow of information technology, especially in Society 5.0. and Industry 4.0, said Constitutional Justice Arief Hidayat in a presentation on “Guarding the Constitution to Maintain the Sovereignty of the Unitary Republic of Indonesia in Society 5.0” at a public lecture for first- and second-year students of Akpol on Monday, August 1, 2022 at the Cendrawasih Auditorium of the Cendekia building of Akpol, Semarang.

He added that Society 5.0 is an improvement from previous concepts. Society 1.0 was a time when humans were still hunting and learning writing. Society 2.0 was an era of agriculture when humans are started farming. Society 3.0 was the start of the industrial era, when humans began to use machines to help with daily activities. Society 4.0 was the introduction to computers and internet.

Society 5.0, Justice Arief said, started when digital technology became a crucial part of human life, where humans are the main component. It is the same with the law, which makes humans key in its mobilization. This means that the law will not function if humans do not move the law. Using the same analogy, Justice Arief stated that in Society 5.0, technology serves humans, and not vice versa. Technology exists to be developed and utilized for the benefit of Indonesians.

“Technology must be developed based on moral principles and divine light. Technology must be humane and able to protect the entire Indonesian nation. Don’t let technology surpass humanity that we forget how to appreciate the true beauty that this world and universe has to offer. Technology must also be able to realize social justice for all Indonesian people and bring people together with the reality that they aspire to together,” he said before 730 police academy students.

To that end, Justice Arief invited Akpol cadets to contribute in responding to these national challenges and threats by becoming intellectuals who act in accordance with their duties, authorities, and profession for the benefit of the nation and state. In addition, he encouraged them to use the digital public space rationally and responsibly, as well as to become Pancasila influencers by participating in disseminating national narratives that increasingly support nationalism and the development of Pancasila values.
