JAKARTA, Public Relations—The leadership of the KPU (General Elections Commission) had an audience with the Constitutional Court (MK) on Tuesday, July 26, 2022. KPU Chairman Hasyim Asy’ari as well as members Mochammad Afifuddin, Yulianto Sudrajat, and others were welcomed by Chief Justice Anwar Usman, Deputy Chief Justice Aswanto, Constitutional Justice Arief Hidayat, and Secretary-General M. Guntur Hamzah in the 15th floor of the Constitutional Court building.

“Today, Tuesday, July 26, 2022, the KPU intends to have an audience with the Constitutional Court leadership. We were welcomed by His Excellencies chief justice, deputy chief justice, and constitutional justice,” Hasyim Asy’ari said to journalists after the meeting.

Endgame of Elections

Hasyim explained that the endgame of an election or regional head election is the KPU’s decision on the certification of vote results, which can be used as an object of dispute over election results at the Constitutional Court. Therefore, he added, in this meeting the KPU conveyed matters relating to the election schedule, the hearing schedule, and the administrative techniques to expedite the election dispute resolution at the Constitutional Court.

“Those are the things that we conveyed, reported, coordinated with, so that we will find the right mechanism or procedure in handling election dispute resolution at the Constitutional Court,” he said.

Moreover, Hasyim added, the 2024 General Election will be a simultaneous election, similar to the one before, where voters will cast five votes. However, in the 2024 Election, apart from dealing with disputes over the results of the presidential election, disputes over the results of the regional election will also be resolved.

“It can be said that the KPU’s burden of holding elections will also increase. Likewise, the consequences for potential disputes over the results of the general and regional election results that will be resolved, examined, and tried by the Constitutional Court will also increase. We coordinate these matters so that potential workloads can be managed well,” Hasyim concluded.
