BOGOR, Public Relations—On Saturday, July 9, 2022, Constitutional Justice Arief Hidayat officially closed the technical assistance program on election result dispute resolution for the Alumni Association of the Indonesian National Student Movement (PA GMNI), which the Constitutional Court (MK) held through its Pancasila and Constitution Education Center (Pusdik MK) in Cisarua, Bogor, West Java.

Justice Arief urged the GMNI alumni to disseminate positive values and teachings of the nation’s founders, especially Bung Karno, to all elements of society. He also urged them to implement Bung Karno’s ideological values in all aspects of life in order to sow positive seeds and strengthen the nation’s unity.

“This role is the GMNI alumni’s responsibility as a nationalist civil society organization, especially as [you] are spread across various professions—in academia, political parties, government, and so on,” he stressed.

He urged all GMNI cadres to become guardians of Pancasila since after the Reform era, Pancasila values have begun to wear away amid increasing external interferences.

Justice Arief expressed his concern that developments of information technology had led to the decline of social values. The rapidly growing social media, he said, has positive and negative sides. On the one hand, it can help control state policies, in that it can improve public participation in monitoring policies made by the Government and state institutions.

“On the other hand, it has negative sides if used irresponsibly, such as the increasing hate speech and hoax in social media contents,” he added.

Justice Arief also revealed that the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Indonesia is well-known internationally, especially within constitutional jurisdiction. The Court uses every international opportunity available to introduce Pancasila as Indonesia’s state ideology and source of law.

“The Indonesian law-based state is a distinctive rule of law that is different from other countries, because it is based on the Pancasila ideology and foundation, which contains noble life values,” he said.
