JAKARTA, Public Relations—The Constitutional Court (MK) and the Agency for Pancasila Ideology Education (BPIP) signed a memorandum of understanding on the constitution awareness program for citizens and the internalization and institutionalization of Pancasila values. The Court’s Secretary-General M. Guntur Hamzah and BPIP’s Deputy for Interagency Relations, Socialization, Communication, and Networking Prakoso signed the MoU before Chief Justice Anwar Usman and BPIP Chairman Yudian Wahyudi on Tuesday, May 31, 2022 in the Multipurpose Hall of the University of Flores, Ende, East Nusa Tenggara. The university’s Rector Simon Sira Padji and historian Anhar Gonggong were also in attendance.

At the event entitled “Tracing Back: Pancasila 1918-1945 in Celebration of Bung Karno’s Ideas of Pancasila in Ende,” Justice Anwar said that Pancasila was a gift from God to the nation because its precepts have been and are still embedded in every religious teaching and belief of the Indonesian people.

He then illustrated the inculcation of the values of Pancasila by quoting the Quran Surah Al Hujarat: 13’—“O mankind, indeed We have created you from male and female and made you peoples and tribes that you may know one another. Indeed, the most noble of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous of you. Indeed, Allah is Knowing and Aware.”

He believed this surah mean that the Indonesian people during the nation’s formation by founders, including Bung Karno, had been of various ethnic groups, races, and beliefs. This diversity compelled the founders to draft Pancasila, whose five precepts are in harmony with the life of the nation. “So, there is no reason for anyone anywhere in this republic to doubt the precepts of Pancasila, anyone of any religion and ethnicity,” he said.

Therefore, this seminar, held in one of the historic regions for the nation’s founders such as Bung Karno, was expected to help produce a generation of citizens that live by Pancasila and to foster the understanding of Pancasila values in the life of the nation and state.

During the event, the Court also signed an MoU with the University of Flores. Secretary General M. Guntur Hamzah and Rector Simon Sira Padji signed it electronically.

The MoU on the constitution awareness program for citizens and the internalization and institutionalization of Pancasila values was expected to serve as a reference in forming synergy and collaboration in order to achieve improvement and understanding of citizens’ constitutional rights as well as internalization and institutionalization of Pancasila values for all Indonesian society, especially within the University of Flores.
