JAKARTA, Public Relations—Chief Justice Anwar Usman attended the Pancasila Day ceremony—led by President Joko Widodo from Ende, East Nusa Tenggara—on Wednesday morning, June 1, 2022 onsite. Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Justice Aswanto and the other constitutional justices attended it virtually from their respective residences.
President Joko Widodo led the ceremony onsite. High state officials, members of the military (TNI) and the police, members of the National Committee of Indonesian Youth (KNPI), and local students attended the event onsite. Other high state officials, students, and members of the community also attended the ceremony remotely.
Ende was chosen because of its historical value as location to which President Soekarno was exiled during the Dutch East Indies colonialism. He was the originator of Pancasila.
Pancasila as State Guide
The 2022 Pancasila Day was celebrated under the theme “Rising Together to Build a World Civilization.” As the inspector of the ceremony, President Joko Widodo reminded the participants of the importance of Pancasila as the nation’s guide in its journey to face various challenges.
“Pancasila has been a guiding star when the Indonesian nation faces challenges and trials, which have been proven time and time again in the course of the nation’ history,” the president remarked.
He also emphasized that the basis of the Indonesian state was final: Pancasila. The Indonesian people agreed on it and must practice and fight for it.
“It is our collective task as the components of the nation, to make Pancasila our nation’ ideology,” he added. He also appealed to all of the nation’s leaders, state officials, community figures, religious leaders, and educators to act as role models in actualizing Pancasila values.
MPR (People’s Consultative Assembly) Speaker Bambang Soesatyo read out the Pancasila text, while Colonel Inf. Tunjung Setyabud (Commander of the Komodo/21st Infantry Brigade, Udayana Military Command) served as the commander of the ceremony.
