YOGYAKARTA, Public Relations—In this era of technological disruption, the truth of information—especially in social media—is very important because anyone can convey information and disseminate it rapidly. In fact, the information may contain biases from irresponsible people. Therefore, it is important that the young generation populate social media with content that helps maintaining the integrity, culture, and noble values of the Indonesian nation, said Constitutional Justice Arief Hidayat in a public lecture organized by the Constitutional Court (MK) and the PGRI University of Yogyakarta (UPY) on Friday, May 27, 2022.
In the lecture on “Pancasila Ideology and Its Challenges in the Era of Technological Disruption,” he said that Pancasila was chosen as the ideal ideology for the nation. He mentioned three countries with Muslim majority populations—Turkey, Afghanistan, and Indonesia. Although the three countries have Muslim majority populations, the concepts for running their countries are different. Turkey is a secular country while Afghanistan is an Islamic state. Meanwhile, Indonesia’s predominantly Muslim Javanese founders, chose Pancasila as the state ideology as they considered it able to unite the very heterogeneous Indonesian society.
“Therefore, the culture created by the founders of this nation deserves to be followed in building and fulfilling Indonesia’s independence for today and in the future,” he said, before the participants and UPY Rector Paiman.
Justice Arief further said that Indonesia had always founded its state life on divine sovereignty. That is, as human beings, the Indonesian people are very dependent on God. So, the nation and its people are a highly religious society. Therefore, without God’s will, whether in political, legal, cultural, and other parts of life, the Indonesian people must receive the divine light.
“Synergizing all beliefs that live in Indonesia is a must, so that life is not based on one religion alone. Even the Indonesian Constitution also states that all aspects of life must be illuminated by the divine light. For that, let’s form cadres who uphold Pancasila as the values passed down by the nation’s founders,” he said.
