JAKARTA, Public Relations—Constitutional Justice Arief Hidayat gave a public lecture at the Dharma Duta Faculty of the I Gusti Bagus Sugriwa State Hindu University, Denpasar, Bali on Friday, May 20, 2022, where he asserted what made Indonesia different from other countries. Indonesia’s direction, he said, is enshrined in the Preamble to the 1945 Constitution. The proclamation of Independence and the Preamble to the 1945 Constitution are a legacy from influential figures who had big hearts, which set Indonesia apart from other nations.

“I can say that the proclamation [of Independence] and the Preamble to the Constitution, which was passed down by the founding fathers, are extraordinary and one in a million,” he said on the site of the lecture.

He explained that the Preamble showed the founders’ extraordinary understanding of the diverse ethnicities, religions, and cultures of the nation. All that diversity is bound by one homeland, nation, and language. “The bond was then reinforced in the Preamble to the 1945 Constitution,” he explained. The fourth paragraph of the Preamble shows Indonesia’s vision, mission, and goals.

Justice Arief also said that Indonesia is a religious country whose state life is full of belief of the One Supreme God, which must be embodied by all aspects of life, and by constitutional justices. He believed that if all elements of the nation upheld it, the law and democracy would be well-implemented and even become the greatest in the world.

“Our democracy is also based on the belief in the One Supreme God, as is the law. If all [the people] uphold it, Indonesia will be the best [nation] in the world. So, if all of us understand and embody it, life will be peaceful,” he stressed.
