KUBU RAYA, Public Relations—A village is selected as a constitution village for its potential that reflect Pancasila, said Constitutional Justice Arief Hidayat at the survey for the constitution village at the meeting hall of Mekar Sari Village, Sungai Raya Subdistrict, Kubu Raya Regency, West Kalimantan on Thursday, March 31, 2022.

He said that the Court had inaugurated Galesong Village, Takalar Regency, South Sulawesi; Kampung Wasur in Merauke, Papua; Bangbang Village, Bangli Regency, Bali; and Nagari Pasia Laweh, Agam Regency, West Sumatera as constitution villages. He added that such a village must be assessed on its implementation on the values of Pancasila and the Constitution in daily file, its implementation of religious beliefs, as well as its economic and cultural potential. “Those are the potential that can be developed,” he said.

Justice Arief also explained the Constitutional Court’s function and authorities. He said that the Court has the authority to adjudicate laws against the 1945 Constitution at the first and last level with decisions that are final, decide on authority disputes between state institutions whose authorities are granted by the 1945 Constitution, decide on the dissolution of political parties, and decide on disputes over general election results. It is also obligated to decide on the DPR’s (House of Representatives) opinion on an alleged violation of law committed by the president and/or vice president.

The nine constitutional justices, he revealed, are endorsed by the three branches of state power—the House of Representatives (DPR), the Supreme Court, and the president—three for each. He also admitted that the Constitutional Court was as well-known as the Supreme Court as it had only been formed post-Reform based on the amendment to the 1945 Constitution.

The head of the Village Representative Body of Mekar Sari, Sahuri, added that constitution villages have unique qualities apart from other villages. One of them is that premature marriages are banned, pursuant to the Constitutional Court’s decision on marriageable age. He also talked about Mekar Sari’s religious community that is ethnically and religiously diverse but coexists and help one another.
