JAKARTA, Public Relations—Constitutional Justice Suhartoyo spoke at the Basic Education and Training I, II and Briefing of Prospective Land Deed Officials (PPAT), which was held virtually by the Central Executive Body of the Association of Land Deed Officials (PP-IPPAT) on Monday, March 28, 2022.

He said the aim of a code of ethics is so that a profession can be carried out with dignity and motivation, orientated to intellectual skills as well as rational and critical argumentation, and uphold moral values. Professional ethics are the norms, terms, and conditions that professionals must meet.

Code of ethics, he added, are values and moral norms that must be observed and implemented by legal professionals. Such a code must be made by people in the profession.

“A code of ethics will not be effective if it is taken from the above, from government agencies or other agencies, because it will not be inspired by the ideals and values within the profession itself,” he said. He also believes that its implementation must be continuously overseen.

He further explained that a code of ethics does not have to be written rules or norms but can also be unwritten habits and so on. Therefore, prospective land deed officials must not think that only a written code of ethics is binding, as even those that are not written are an inseparable part of it.

“So a code of ethics cannot be separated from professional ethics, and this profession is represented by the organization so that there are standards, there are the same products, there are the same standards of service, which are then integrated,” he explained from the Constitutional Court.
