ROME, Public Relations—Pancasila is an absolute necessity and the ideology must be maintained. Therefore, apart from being the guardian of the Constitution, the Republic of Indonesia is also the guardian of state ideology. Pancasila is first president Bung Karno’s thought that must be realized in the administration of the nation and state, said Constitutional Justice Arief Hidayat at a meeting with Indonesian Ambassador to Italy M. Prakosa on Monday evening, March 21, 2022 at the Indonesia Embassy in Rome, Italy. He was accompanied by Secretary-General M. Guntur Hamzah.

Justice Arief talked about the MKRI’s (Constitutional Court of the Republic of Indonesia) international roles, including as a member of the World Conference on Constitutional Justice (WCCJ). His arrival in Italy was part of the official annual meeting of the WCCJ Bureau, hosted by the Venice Commission on Saturday, March 19 in Venice, Italy.

“As a member of the WCCJ Bureau, the MKRI visits Italy every year for the annual meeting in Venice. This is my fourth visit to Italy, especially to Venice, to attend the meeting sicne 2015. However, in 2020 and 2021 the meeting took place virtually,” he added.

Justice Arief also said that the MKRI has been well-known internationally, especially among constitutional judicial bodies. The MKRI has used its international platform to introduce Pancasila, the state ideology and foundation, as a source of law in Indonesia.

“The law-based state Indonesia is a rule of law with distinctive characteristics that are different from other countries, as it is founded on Pancasila, which contains noble life values,” he said. Therefore, aside from being aimed at improving the quality of its decisions through sharing of experience, the Court’s international endeavors and its justice system based on Pancasila also serve to influence and to become a reference for other countries’ justice system.

Meanwhile, Ambassador M. Prakosa expressed his gratitude for the MKRI delegation’s visit and presentation. “We are honored to receive Your Excellency Constitutional Justice Prof. Arief, so we received many information on the MKRI and its roles in the WCCJ and other international forums,” he said.

At the end of the meeting, Justice Arief Hidayat and Ambassador M. Prakosa chatted, exchanged tokens of appreciation, and took pictures together.
