JAKARTA, Public Relations—In preparation for the fifth congress of the World Conference on Constitutional Justice (WCCJ), the Constitutional Court (MK) held a coordination meeting and signing of memorandum of understanding with accommodation providers and relevant institutions on Saturday, March 5, 2022 at Pecatu Hall, BNDCC, Bali.

The MoU was signed by Secretary-General M. Guntur Hamzah and 11 executive managers of hotels that would provide accommodation for the upcoming event. The MoU was signed digitally before Constitutional Justice Arief Hidayat. It served to improve commitment, cooperation, and synergy between the Court and the other institutions for the success of the upcoming congress.

In his remarks, Constitutional Justice Arief Hidayat said the Constitutional Court was born from the Reform era on August 13, 2003. Despite its young age, the Court is known internationally as a holder of judicial power, especially in reviewing the constitutionality of laws. The Court also performs its international roles following the Preamble of the Constitution and, based on the Presidential Decree No. 14 of 2013, has been an official member of the WCCJ. It has been selected to host the fifth WCCJ congress, which will take place on October 4–7, 2022.

Justice Arief added that the international event would take place both onsite and online from Bali, with 118 countries participating. The Constitutional Court has immense hope that its partners could provide optimum support for the event’s success, which would further cement Indonesia’s reputation internationally.

“My hope is that through this activity, Indonesia, which was chosen to host the fifth WCCJ congress, can be a good host with good preparations by the Court and its partners. The event could be a stage for Indonesia that has good quality and is attractive. Therefore, all stakeholders can support the event and introduce existing facilities so that important figures from the participating countries would know them. They will be present with delegation members and we must prepare ourselves and the support from all stakeholders. Hopefully every stakeholder will read the references in the MoU to provide optimal support in the congress,” Justice Arief said.

The accommodation provider representatives who signed the MoU were the Director of Sales and Marketing of the Bali Nusa Dua Hotel Yoga Angga Muda, the General Manager of Courtyard by Nusa Dua Bali Marriot Yvonne Wan, the General Manager of the Nusa Dua Grand Whiz Hotel Joses B. Sahiundaleng, the General Manager of Melia Bali Eduardo Perera-Castro, the General Manager of Nusa Dua Bali Mercure I Ketut Iriana, the General Manager of Nusa Dua Bali Renaissance Resort Jeff Tyler, the General Manager of the Nusa Dua Bali Ritz Carlton John Woolley, the General Manager In-Charge of the Nusa Dua Bali Santika Siligita I Ketut Agus Artawan, the Hotel Manager of the Nusa Dua Bali Sofitel Kadek Agus Dwi Astawa, the Cluster Director of Sol by Melia Benoa Putu Yeni Navitarini, and the General Manager of the Laguna Bali Lucia Liu.

Coordination Meeting on Health

The Court also held a coordination meeting in health with the Bali Health Office to discuss the formation of a COVID-19 Taskforce Team for the event, which consists of the Constitutional Court COVID-19 Taskforce Team, the National Disaster Management Authority (BNPB), the Regional COVID-19 Taskforce, the Bali Province Health Office, and the Bali Regency Health Office. The meeting was chaired by Secretary-General M. Guntur Hamzah.

“We prepare the arrangements according to the COVID-19 condition. In the event of changes and the situation turned for the better, it would make the implementation of the event easier. If the COVID-19 [pandemic] remained, coordination with the COVID-19 Taskforce and relevant stakeholders would still be necessary,” said BNPB Deputy Zahermann Muabesi said.

The health teams will be divided during the event: the delegation VIP transit room of Terminal 3 at the Soekarno-Hatta Airport (by KKP Soetta), the delegation arrival VIP room health team at the Bali airport (by KKP Denpasar), and the Health Team from the Bali Health Office for 13 partner hotels. The following facilities will also be prepared: ambulance cars at the 13 partner hotels (by the Bali Health Office), a mini ICU at BNDCC (by the Bali Health Office), several referral hospitals (by BNPB, the Bali COVID-19 Taskforce, and the Bali Health Office), isolation rooms (by BNPB, the Bali COVID-19 Taskforce, and the Bali Health Office), and emergency services (by the Bali Health Office).
