JAKARTA, Public Relations—The preliminary hearing of the judicial review of Law No. 24 of 2009 on the National Flag, Language, Emblem, and Anthem (BBLNLK Law) unfolded in the Constitutional Court (MK) on Wednesday afternoon, February 9, 2022. The material judicial review petition in case No. 12/PUU-XX/2022 was filed by Ludjiono, a retired civil servant at the Health Office of Situbondo Regency, East Java.

In his petition, the Petitioner challenges Articles 25, 30, and 40 of the BBLNLK Law. He argued that the a quo law did not stipulate “the definition of bahasa Indonesian.” He believes that this had led to ambiguity in his nationality in his KTP (resident identity card), whether it should be written in spoken or written bahasa Indonesia and what writing system.

The panel hearing was chaired by Constitutional Justice Daniel Yusmic P. Foekh. A moment after opening the hearing, he asked about the Petitioner’s virtual attendance. However, it was not confirmed.

“According to information from the Registrar’s Office, the Petitioner could not be contacted since this morning, so the hearing this afternoon is to be delayed. The Registrar’s Office will set up a schedule for the Petitioner. This concludes this hearing,” he said.
