Court Holds Press Conference Ahead of Annual Report Plenary Session

JAKARTA, Public Relations—Ahead of the Constitutional Court’s (MK) special plenary session for its Annual Report of 2021, it held a press conference on Tuesday, February 8, 2022 at the hall of its second building. At the event, which took place onsite with restrictions and online, Chief Justice Anwar Usman stated that the Court was obliged to submit reports openly to the public regarding things that it has been, is, and will carry out. In fact, he added, the Court must hold its hearings openly.

“So, on Thursday, February 10, 2022, the Constitutional Court will submit a report openly to all elements of the nation. At this event, the Constitutional Court [invited] the President of the Republic of Indonesia, heads of state institutions, ambassadors, and other guests on a limited basis by implementing health protocols in accordance with applicable regulations in Indonesia,” he said before the press.

He added that the Court had received the honor to host the fifth congress of the World Conference on Constitutional Justice (WCCJ), to be held on October 4-8, 2022 in Bali. As many as 118 countries will join this international event of the world’s constitutional courts both online and onsite strictly following COVID-19 protocols. He expressed hope that journalists would help the Court disseminate this information to the public.

“Therefore, journalist friends, we request that you inform the public that in October 2022 the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Indonesia will hold an international event, which is not only important for the Court but also for the nation,” he said.

Present at the press conference alongside the chief justice were Secretary-General M. Guntur Hamzah, Chief Registrar Muhidin, Head of the Public Relations and Protocol Bureau Heru Setiawan, and senior researcher Nalom Kurniawan. The Constitutional Court will hold an open special plenary session for its Annual Report of 2021 on Thursday, February 10, 2022 in its plenary courtroom. The event marks the Court’s effort to play its role as a modern and trusted judicial institution to inform the public of its activities.
