JAKARTA, Public Relations—Chief Justice Anwar Usman attended the 2022 Financial Services Industry Annual Meeting on “Strengthening the Financial Services Sector for Accelerating National Economic Recovery and Supporting the New Economic Meeting” on Thursday, January 20, 2022 virtually. At the event, President Joko Widodo issued a directive that stakeholders must consider in looking forward to economic activities in 2022 with optimism.

The President admitted that 2021 was full of complexities, but the economy is now recovering, Therefore, he emphasized that the Financial Services Authority (OJK) as the motor of economic policies must issue effective policies to help the informal sector and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to be able to survive so that they can grow better.

President Joko Widodo hoped the launch of the Indonesian Green Taxonomy would be followed by serious, consistent, and sustainable acceleration so as to provide business expansion for many sectors, including beginners, to develop their businesses. The OJK’s innovation is also in line with the commitment made by the Government that structural reform policies will continue by focusing on environmental, social, and governance-based economic development. To that end, the Government continues to encourage technological transformation and digitalization in an effort to achieve sustainable economic growth. At the end of his remarks, the President hoped that the support from the financial services sector and industry, such as what the OJK’s effort to accelerate economic recovery, could contribute to the success of the Government’s structural reform agenda.

On the same occasion, President Joko Widodo also launched Indonesia’s Green Taxonomy, which is the OJK’s strategy to implement sustainable economic roadmap. The concept will be implemented by the OJK on agriculture, real estate, to MSMEs so that business activities in Indonesia also business activities that support environmental protection efforts and climate change mitigation and adaptation. This definition is in line with several other countries such as the European Union Green Taxonomy and the China Green Catalog. In addition, this concept is also in line with Indonesia’s commitment to climate change at the 26th UN Climate Change Conference (COP26). Hopefully this joint commitment can be realized and will accelerate sustainable finance in Indonesia.
