JAKARTA, Public Relations—Secretary-General M. Guntur Hamzah received audience from the Agency for Pancasila Ideology Education (BPIP) at the eleventh floor of the Constitutional Court building on Monday morning, January 17, 2022. Also present at the meeting were the Head of the Center for Research, Case Review, and Library Management Kurniasih Panti Rahayu, the Acting Head of the Pancasila and Constitution Education Center Imam Margono, the Head of the Program and Implementation of the Pancasila and Constitution Education Center Nanang Subekti, Senior Researcher Pan Mohamad Faiz, and Junior Researcher Nallom Kurniawan.

Starting the discussion, Guntur talked briefly about the Court’s jurisdiction. The Court, he said, has four authorities and one obligation, which are regulated in the Constitution. “If they have been regulated in the Constitution, the derivative [legislation] should not deviate from the Constitution,” he stressed.

The Court’s first authority and core business, Guntur said, is the judicial review of laws. Second, deciding on authority disputes between state institutions whose authorities are granted by the 1945 Constitution. Third, deciding on the dissolution of political parties. Fourth, deciding on disputes over general election results. It also obligated to decide on the House of Representatives’ (DPR) opinion on an alleged violation of law committed by the president and/or vice president. In addition, the Court is the guardian, protector, and final interpreter of the Constitution.

BPIP Chief Secretary (Sestama) Karjono revealed the audience’s objective. He explained that BPIP was stipulated by the Presidential Regulation No. 7 of 2018 on BPIP. “BPIP is visiting the Constitutional Court to collaborate in improving [the understanding of] Pancasila. We know the Court has extraordinary education and training. Therefore, we are hoping to be involved in Pancasila-related programs and those on the history of Pancasila or the values of Pancasila,” he said alongside the Deputy for Interagency Relations, Socialization, Communication, and Networking Prakoso; the Deputy for Law, Advocacy, and Regulation Monitoring K. A. Tajuddin; and other BPIP officials. Karjono also expressed his hope for the synergy between the Constitutional Court and BPIP.

In response, Secretary-General M. Guntur Hamzah welcomed BPIP’s intention to collaborate and hoped that the synergy could form.
