JAKARTA, Public Relations—As the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Indonesia (MKRI) had been appointed to host the fifth congress of the World Conference on Constitutional Justice (WCCJ) in 2022, the Court had made some preparations. One of them was a meeting on Thursday, December 23, 2021 at the Constitutional Court. Secretary to Minister of State Secretary Setya Utama, Director for Legal Affairs and Political and Security Treaties of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Purnomo Achmad Chandra, and senior policy analyst for the International Technical Cooperation Bureau (KTLN) of the Ministry of State Secretariat Arrya Tirto Sumarto were in attendance.

At the meeting, Secretary-General M. Guntur Hamzah, who led the meeting, quoting the President at the annual joint session of the MPR (People’s Consultative Assembly), the House (DPR), and the DPD (Regional Representatives Council) on August 14, 2020, said that the MKRI had been actively initiating and coordinating regional and global events so that Indonesia’s legal system be a reference for democracies around the world.

Setya Utama explained that as the upcoming WCCJ congress would take place before a G20 meeting on November 2022, the Court would have to prepare it well. He also expressed support for the event.

The appointment of MKRI as the next host of the WCCJ congress would be a challenge amid the uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic. It is prepared to organize it in a hybrid manner, both onsite and online using virtual technology, and in compliance with the health protocol set by the WHO. The event is set to take place on October 2022, with 118 countries in attendance.
