SEOUL, Public Relations—In between the official visit to the Constitutional Court of Korea (CCK) and of the Association of Asian Constitutional Courts and Equivalent Institutions’ Secretariat for Research and Development (AACC SRD), Constitutional Justices MKRI Manahan M. P. Sitompul and Enny Nurbaningsih also visited the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) in Seoul, South Korea on Wednesday, December 22, 2021. They were received by chargé d'affaires ad interim Zelda Wulan Kartika, counsellor Riza Hera Wardhana, and other KBRI officials. The constitutional justices’ visit was also to disseminate the MKRI’s international programs to the KBRI office.
During the visit, Justice Manahan explained that the MKRI serves as one of the executors of the judicial power as well as the guardian and final interpreter of the Constitution. One of its authorities is to review laws against the 1945 Constitution, thus guarding the citizens’ constitutional rights against any harm from unconstitutional substance of laws. “So, the MKRI is the institution that is authorized to be the final interpreter of the Constitution [and] to protect the Constitution-guaranteed constitutional rights of the citizens,” he said.
Next, Justice Enny explained the role of the MKRI internationally—starting from its involvement in the AACC to its appointment as host of the congress of the World Conference on Constitutional Justice (WCCJ) in Bali in 2022.
“The MKRI not only plays a role nationally, but also internationally. It plays an important role in the founding of the AACC and is a member of the WCCJ, that it received trust to host the WCCJ [congress] in Bali in October [2022],” she said.
KBRI Seoul welcomed and appreciated the good relations between the MKRI and the CCK, which is a positive contribution to building a peaceful world climate based on their respective authorities. “This is certainly very good for bilateral relations between Indonesia and South Korea,” said Zelda.
Justice Enny also added that Indonesia had always served as a mediator between AACC member countries as part of the effort to realize world order. The visit was concluded with a tour of the embassy and introduction to the KBRI staff and its immigration services, followed by an exchange of souvenirs and a group photo session.
