SEOUL, Public Relations—In an official visit to the Constitutional Court of Korea (CCK), Constitutional Justices MKRI Manahan M. P. Sitompul and Enny Nurbaningsih also visited the office of the Association of Asian Constitutional Courts and Equivalent Institutions’ Secretariat for Research and Development (AACC SRD) in Seoul, South Korea on Tuesday, December 21, 2021. The delegation of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Indonesia (MKRI) was welcomed by the CCK’s Secretary-General, Park Jongmun.

During the visit, Justice Manahan discussed the AACC’s role in supporting the fifth congress of the World Conference on Constitutional Justice (WCCJ), to be held in Bali, Indonesia in 2022, as well as research and secondment programs. Meanwhile, Justice Enny explained a number of WCCJ agendas and said that the CCK would also be involved in the first Asia-Africa Congress, which is part of the core event.

“This is the first congress between the two continents, Asia and Africa [represented by the AACC and the Conference of Constitutional Jurisdictions of Africa/CCJA] as a form of MoU between the AACC and the CCJA, which was signed in 2017, followed by an Asia-Africa declaration,” she said.

Justice Manahan also informed the CCK of the research topics and the extent of the other AACC members’ involvement. “It is necessary to explain how the AACC SRD selects research topics and whether the other AACC members can be involved in proposing research topics,” he requested. In response, the deputy of the AACC SRD said that it would be flexible and that the AACC members could make suggestions.

In addition to research, which culminates in book publication, Justice Enny also discussed programs of the AACC’s Secretariat for Planning and Coordination (AACC SPC) in WCCJ 2022, which would include liaison officer (LO) meeting between AACC member countries, the meeting of secretaries-general (MSG), board of member meetings (BoMM), and short courses.

Outside of the WCCJ agenda, the AACC SRD’s secondment program in 2022 was also discussed at the meeting. The MKRI has sent its staff members to participate in the program in 2018-2020. The AACC SRD expressed its plan to continue the program and invite the AACC member countries to join. The program is part of human resource capacity building for the AACC members. The meeting at the AACC SRD then ended with the conferment of souvenirs and a group photo session.
