PADANG, Public Relations—Chief Justice Anwar Usman closed the Constitutional Justice Work Meeting (Raker) of 2021 in Padang, West Sumatera on Friday, December 10, 2021. Structural and functional officials of the Registrar’s Office and the Secretariat-General of the Constitutional Court were in attendance.
Justice Anwar began his remarks by expressing thanks for the success of the meeting, which served to evaluate the Court’s exercise of its substantial constitutional responsibilities mandated by the Constitution. He said it was only successful because of good cooperation by all elements in the Court.
Meanwhile, Secretary-General M. Guntur Hamzah in his report said that the meeting had discussed strategic issues on the performance of the Registrar’s Office and the Secretariat-General of the Constitutional Court, the evaluation of the handling of constitutional cases throughout 2021, the Constitutional Court Regulation (PMK) on the Constitutional Court’s ethics council, and the PMK on state interagency authority disputes, and so on.
He added that the development of IT and the design of modern judiciary had positive and negative impacts. The positive impact is the improvement of remote hearing quality, while the negative is the increase of hate speech.
Work Meeting Dynamics
At the meeting, the Court also discussed what it must do to develop its information and communications technology (ICT). Guntur added that substitute registrars and researchers must by synchronized in providing support to the constitutional justices.
On the second day of the meeting, the constitutional justices discussed crucial issues on the Court’s duties and authorities. They conveyed the need for a PMK that support online hearing. In the third session, the participants discussed several PMKs on the Court’s ethics council and interagency disputes (SKLN).
