JAKARTA, Public Relations—Constitutional Justice Saldi Isra gave a public lecture at the Legal Profession Introduction Study (SPPH) XXIV organized by the Moot Court student activity unit (UKM) of the Law Faculty of Pancasila University on Sunday, November 14, 2021 virtually. He first reminisced about his early days of studying the law.
He also hoped that the law students of Pancasila University would be adaptive, courteous, innovative, and consistent (ASIK—adaptif, sopan, inovatif, konsisten). They must learn to balance academic and nonacademic experiences.
“Simply put, being busy with extracurricular activities should not reduce the seriousness of pursuing good grades. So, start looking for patterns in studying law so that lectures run well and [you] understand the materials and you can be law students who will answer our future needs. The career opportunities are more promising compared to other fields,” Justice Saldi said.
He shared three basic things that law students need besides academic abilities. First, communication skills, which will be key as advocates. These skills can be honed through nonacademic activities that give opportunities for constructive debates.
Second, writing skills. Students must invest in these skills, which can measure their ability to approach others.
Third, analytical thinking. With the ‘ASIK’ prerequisites, law students are expected not only to graduate from their universities, but also to possess abilities that will contribute to the nation and state.
