JAKARTA, Public Relations—The competitive research at the Court serves to provide substantive support to the constitutional justices, Secretary-General of the Constitutional Court (MK) M. Guntur Hamzah said on Tuesday morning, November 2, 2021 in his speech before the presentation of the results of the competitive research.

After the research is finished, the Court’s research team write its summary along with a softcopy file of the completed research.

“By taking the most important angles of the results of this research in order to improve the quality of the Constitutional Court’s decisions, hopefully the constitutional justices will read the research results summary. Hopefully they find interest in the research results so that they can be used as a reference in the Court’s decisions. In addition, there needs to be certain methods to communicate the research results to the constitutional justices more effectively,” he said.

Guntur believes it would be a shame of the constitutional justices do not read the research results as they have taken cost, time, and ideas. It will also be a shame not to have research relating to the Court’s decisions.

“Therefore, if the three research really provides something new, the constitutional justices will refer to them. This is the challenge,” Guntur said.

Beneficial for the People

Guntur also said that the research by the Court’s research team will also benefit the public and stakeholders such as high state institutions and the DPR (House of Representatives), who are concerned with the Court’s research. “Hopefully the Court’s research will be products that the Court can be proud of,” he added.

In addition, he said, the competitive research by the Court’s research team enters the libraries of legal universities in Indonesia. They will be a reference for undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate law students. “Strategies are required to communicate the results of the Court’s research,” he stressed.

There are three research at this year’s competitive research. The limited number was due to limited budget, he said.

“However, even in the current conditions, the three research by the Court’s research team are expected to meet the Assessment Team’s expectations as discussed when the research proposals were received,” Guntur said. He also warned against plagiarism and urged the research team to account for their research.
