JAKARTA, Public Relations—When citizens are not aware of their constitutional rights, the Constitution will ‘be asleep,’ so they must understand if any law degrade their constitutional rights, said Deputy Chief Justice Aswanto when closing the constitution awareness program for the citizens (PPHKWN) for the Association of Civic Education Lecturers and the Association of Pancasila and Civic Education Lecturers (ADPK) virtually on Friday afternoon, October 29, 2021.

He said the Constitutional Court (MK) is in a passive stance, in that it can only examine cases when petitioners file petitions to the Court because their constitutional rights are degraded by the enactment of any law.

“The notion compelled the Court to collaborate with stakeholders, including universities and associations of educators so that the citizens become more aware of their constitutional rights,” he said.

He added that massive constitution awareness programs are expected to accelerate the citizens’ awareness of their constitutional rights. There must be triggers to inspire such awareness among the people, one of which through education and training that the Court has been organizing.
