JAKARTA, Public Relations—In order to evaluate the realization of Indonesia’s Vision of 2020 as stated in the MPR (People’s Consultative Assembly) Decree No. VII/MPR/2001, the Constitutional Court (MK) attended the MPR Commission Meeting on Constitutional Analysis on Wednesday, October 27, 2021, represented by Secretary-General M. Guntur Hamzah. The event on ‘Evaluating the Implementation of the State’s Vision and Mission in Formulating the Direction of National Development,’ which took place in the Nusantara IV Delegation Room of the MPR Building, was meant to collect inputs from speakers from various disciplines and professions for the state policy outlines (PPHN).
Guntur provided input on the direction of national development based on the state’s vision and mission. Based on the 1945 Constitution, the Constitutional Court as one of the executors of judicial power, was given the authority to carry out constitutional adjudication under constitutional supremacy to protect the Constitution. This means the Court maintains the constitutional values contained in the 1945 Constitution through judicial review to ensure that the legal system is carried out in accordance with the hierarchy of laws and regulations and the values of the 1945 Constitution. In this context, the Court serves as the guardian of the state ideology, Pancasila.
“Pancasila is not merely theory, but it contains the methods to achieve a consensus for social justice. It is a perfect and final, undeniable concept,” he added.
Guntur said that the state’s vision and mission is far from being realized, so the Preamble to the Constitution is not only declarative, but also programmatic. It is not only a declaration of independence or state founding, but it also dictates the state administration system. The preamble is inspired by the noble values of Pancasila, which are then translated into articles of the Constitution.
Guntur encouraged everyone to understand the main ideas of the Preamble of the 1945 Constitution and the direction of the state administration. In other words, those main ideas, he said, are key to understanding the reason for the existence of Indonesia as a nation and state.
