JAKARTA, Public Relations—Deputy Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court (MK) Aswanto as well as Constitutional Justices Wahiduddin Adams and Daniel Yusmic P. Foekh attended the 2021 Pancasila Sanctity Day ceremony virtually on Friday, October 1, 2021, which took place at the Pancasila Sakti Monument, Lubang Buaya, Jakarta. President Joko Widodo led the ceremony, which Vice President Ma’ruf Amin and other national officials also attended.

The ceremony was held both onsite and online, while implementing strict health protocols. It was simple but solemn.

Regional Representatives Council (DPD) Speaker La Nyalla Mattalitti read out Pancasila, followed by the reading of the Preamble to the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia by People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) Speaker Bambang Soesatyo. This was followed by the reading and signing of the pledge of allegiance to Pancasila by House of Representatives (DPR) Speaker Puan Maharani and close by a prayer by the Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas.

The Pancasila Sanctity Day is commemorated annually on October 1 to remind the Indonesian people that the state ideology Pancasila cannot be replaced by any other ideologies. The commemoration of the Pancasila Sanctity Day was motivated by the September 30 Movement (G30S) in 1965—a tragedy of the heinous murder of seven TNI (Armed Forces) generals by the Indonesian Communist Party (PKI). The ceremony first took place at Lubang Buaya, East Jakarta on October 1, 1966, after which it became an annual routine.
