Bandung Declaration
Chief Justice Anwar Usman thanked the ambassador for his visit and talked about his impression during a visit to Algeria.
“We also really appreciate the cooperation between [the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Indonesia and the Constitutional Council of Algeria]. I still remember my visit to Algeria several years ago when I was deputy chief justice. I received a warm welcome. If the COVID-19 pandemic is over, [God willing], I will visit Algeria,” he said.
“This J-OIC event hopefully can establish the forum. The working committee—[the constitutional review bodies of] Algeria, Indonesia, Turkey, Pakistan, and Gambia—will cooperate and support the smooth implementation of the J-OIC [event]. Bandung Declaration will be a result of this event,” he added.
Justice Anwar also said that the MKRI and the Constitutional Council of Algeria have been active and supporting each other in international forums such as the Conference of Constitutional Justices (WCCJ). The Court will host the fifth WCCJ Conference next year in Bali as well as a joint conference between the Association of Asian Constitutional Courts and Equivalent Institutions (AACC) and the Conference of Constitutional Jurisdictions of Africa (CCJA). The MKRI is a member of the AACC while the Constitutional Council of Algeria is a member of the CCJA.
