BANDUNG, Public Relations—Ahead of the upcoming 2nd Conference of the Judicial Conference of Constitutional and Supreme Courts/Councils of the OIC Member States/Observer States (The 2nd J-OIC Conference) slated for September 15-17, 2021, the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Indonesia (MKRI) held another technical meeting for the international event on Friday afternoon, September 10, 2021. This last preparation meeting was chaired by Chief Justice Anwar Usman and attended by the other constitutional justices, officials of West Java Province, and structural officials within the Registrar’s Office and the Secretariat General of the Constitutional Court.
Justice Anwar believes that Bandung was chosen to host the conference because of its history of the Asian-African Congress. He also said that the international event is in line with President Joko Widodo’s hope that the Constitutional Court could be active internationally.
Meanwhile, Constitutional Justice Arief Hidayat said that Indonesia had participated in international events, including providing a solution to the leadership issue of the Association of Asian Constitutional Courts and Equivalent Institutions (AACC). He revealed that he had talked with the president a few times regarding the conference, which the president appreciates and supports.
Next, Deputy Chief Justice Aswanto expected that the conference would be able to promote Bandung’s tourism. He said that the Court had organized international events in Solo and Yogyakarta with the same goal.
Next, Secretary-General M. Guntur Hamzah led the meeting, where he received reports and inputs from the audience. Members of the audience reported their preparation ahead of the conference, including security details, protocol, diplomatic administration, and health assistance.
The conference will take place both onsite and virtually on September 15-17, 2021 in Bandung. The event will focus on “Human Rights and Constitutionalism: The Contribution of Judiciary in Moslem Countries.”
