JAKARTA, Public Relations—The Secretary-General of the Constitutional Court (MK) M. Guntur Hamzah welcomed the Head of the National Archives of the Republic of Indonesia (ANRI) Imam Gunarto and his subordinates on the 11th floor of the Constitutional Court building on Monday afternoon, September 6, 2021. During the visit, the two institutions discussed the planning to encapsulate the Court’s monumental/landmark decisions. Among them are the first decision where the Court granted the petition and the first decree of petition withdrawal.

“With regard to the plan to encapsulate the Court’s landmark decisions, make sure the number, year, etc. accurately,” Guntur said.

The Court’s first landmark decision will be handed over to ANRI and will be placed at the Constitution History Center (Puskon) under ANRI’s supervision

“All requirements to preserve the document will be met by the Court, following the state archive storing standards. A model that meets the standards in state archive storage will be made for the document,” Guntur added.

Following Archive Law

The placement of the first landmark decision at Puskon, Imam Gunarto said, means that ANRI must preserve and manage the archive following the Archive Law.

“This does not violate the Archive Law, as archives can be loaned for specific needs. ANRI can also store its archives in places other than ANRI, such as the Constitutional Court’s landmark decision at Puskon, which is located in the Constitutional Court. It is better than being stored at ANRI with only limited public access. We agreed that the document would be placed at the ANRI Corner at Puskon, so that it can be access by the public,” he said.

The Court’s archivist Kasiman said the document would be stored at Puskon on floors 5 and 6 of the Court’s building.

Purpose of Encapsulation

Encapsulation is the method to protect paper from physical damage, such as that due to age, acidity, insects, storage errors, etc. The object of encapsulation is usually pieces of paper such as old manuscripts, poster maps, etc.

ANRI will carry out the archival preservation using astralon and polyester, by enclosing paper archives between two astralon or polyester sheets and then sealing them with double-sided tape to protect the document.
