JAKARTA, Public Relations—The Constitutional Court of the Republic of Indonesia (MK) celebrated its 18th anniversary on Friday morning, August 13, 2021. The ceremony was led by Chief Justice Anwar Usman. The other eight constitutional justices and all staff members of the Registrar’s Office and Secretariat General of the Constitutional Court joined the ceremony both in person at the front yard of Building II of the Constitutional Court and virtually through Zoom.

In his speech, Justice Anwar said this year’s anniversary was the second one amid the COVID-19 pandemic. He urged the ceremony participants to remain grateful in solemnly celebrating the Court’s anniversary despite the unfortunate condition. He also said that every period undeniably had its own challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic hit the world and everyone had to adapt all activities to it. The Constitutional Court also had to adapt to carry out its duties as an executor of the judicial power.

The Court proceedings, starting from case registration, document completeness assessment, evidence assessment, to ruling hearings must be adjusted to the new condition. At the secretariat, the staff members must also keep providing services by adjusting the infrastructure to the work-at-home policy.

“This is part of the challenge that must be overcome so that the institution keeps performing as it should. In a condition like this, we must help each other and find solutions so that our responsibilities as an institution can still be carried out properly,” Justice Anwar said.

He also congratulated the staff members the Satyalancana Karya Satya for 10, 20, and 30 years of service. The awards, he said, were the state’s tokens of appreciation for state civil apparatus’ (ASN) dedication to the nation and state. He also congratulated the civil servants and contract-based employees who had been selected as this year’s exemplary staff. He hoped they would continue to be role models for other staff members.
