JAKARTA, Public Relations—The revote (PSU) of the Rokan Hulu regent election was challenged by Candidate Pair No. 3 Hafith Syukri-Erizal in case No. 140/PHP.BUP-XIX/2021 and Candidate Pair No. 1 H. Hamulian-M. Topan in case No. 138/PHP.BUP-XIX/2021. The preliminary hearing for both cases took place on Wednesday morning, May 19, 2021. The Hafith-Erizal case hearing was presided over by Deputy Chief Justice Aswanto (panel chair) and Constitutional Justices Suhartoyo and Daniel Yusmic P. Foekh.

After opening the hearing, Justice Aswanto asked the litigants to introduce themselves and proceeded to ask for confirmation regarding the withdrawal of the petition.

“There is a letter explaining that the Petitioner would like to withdraw the petition. Is it correct?” he asked.

The Petitioner’s attorney Teja Sukmana confirmed the withdrawal. Justice Aswanto then asked that the legal team show and read out the copy of the petition withdrawal request.

“We’d like to confirm that the petition withdrawal request that you have sent to the Court matches that which you have in your hand,” he said.

The Petitioner has previously reported the revote as per the Decision No. 70/PHP.BUP-XIX/2021. In the petition for case No. 140/PHP.BUP-XIX/2021, they requested that the Court annul the regency’s General Elections Commission (KPU) Decree No. 49/PL.02.6-Kpt/1406/KPU-Kab/lV/2021 dated April 24, 2021 regarding the results of a revote at 25 polling stations (TPS) within the premises of PT Torganda’s plantation, which took place on April 27.

They also requested that the Court annul the regency’s KPU decree regarding the confirmation of Candidate Pair No. 2 H. Sukiman-Indra Gunawan as the winner of the election. However, they also requested that the Court transfer all valid votes for Sukiman-Indra to them.

The justices will forward the case to the justice deliberation meeting (RPH). “The panel will report the follow-up to this case to the justice deliberation meeting,” Justice Aswanto said.
