JAKARTA, Public Relations—Mass vaccination to curb the spread of COVID-19 within the Registrar’s Office and the Secretariat General of the Constitutional Court took place on Monday, March 15, 2021 in front of the second building of the Court. Chief Justice Anwar Usman, Court officials, and staff members gathered to receive the jab.

Secretary-General M. Guntur Hamzah hoped the event, held to anticipate the spread of COVID-19, run smoothly. “The vaccination was held thanks to the support of the Ministry of Health, who monitors its implementation. I’d like to thank the [Ministry of Health’s director-general of health services] and his ranks, who have supported [this vaccination] and involved health workers from various hospitals,” he said. He also expressed his gratitude for the support of the national COVID-19 taskforce and the Ministry of State Secretariat.

In this second batch, 750 people will be vaccinated, after 50 people—including the constitutional justices, the chief registrar, and the substitute registrars—had received the vaccine jab in the first batch.

Guntur revealed that 95 staff members of the Court have tested positive for COVID-19—88 of them have recovered, 3 are still being treated at the hospital, while 3 others self-isolating. “Unfortunately, 2 Court staff members passed away from COVID-19 [complications],” he said.

The Ministry of Health’s director-general of health services Abdul Kadir stressed that Constitutional Court staff members who have received the vaccine must continue following health protocols in their day-to-day lives.

“Including applying safe distance of 1-2 meters, wearing a mask, and so on. The vaccination program serves to develop immunity from COVID-19. However, after vaccination, one isn’t free to do whatever they want, go everywhere, and disregard health protocols,” he said. Abdul also explained that recipients will get two doses of the vaccine. After 28 days, vaccine recipients are expected to develop immunity.

Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court of 2013-2015 Hamdan Zoelva also attended the mass vaccination. “[Thank God], the vaccination in the Constitutional Court is a very good anticipatory measure to curb the spread of COVID-19 within the Court. It is important to do it massively, because the Court is one of the state institutions that provides public services,” he said.

On its website, the Ministry of Health stated that the government has started the second stage of COVID-19 vaccine rollout since February 17, 2021 for public sector workers and people over 60. The second rollout is expected to be completed in May. It targets 38.5 million people—16.9 public sector workers and 21.5 senior citizens.

People falling in the public sector category are educators (teachers and lecturers), market traders, religious figures, legislative members, state officials, government employees, personnel of the Indonesian Defense Forces (TNI) and the Indonesian National Police (Polri), public service officers (village officers, firefighters, and employees of state- and region-owned enterprises), public transportation officers, athletes, reporters, and those working in tourism sector (hotels, restaurants, and tourist destinations).
