JAKARTA, Public Relations—To participate in and support the government’s COVID-19 vaccination program, the Constitutional Court (MK) is prepared to roll out the vaccine to its staff members. The collaboration program with the Ministry of Health will take place on Monday, March 15, 2021.

Secretary-General M. Guntur Hamzah said the program wouldn’t succeed without the support of the Ministry of Health as facilitator. He revealed that the Court has rolled out the first batch by inoculating 50 people, including the justices and civil servants in the Registrar’s Office.

“On Monday, 750 people will be vaccinated, reaching a total of 800. Fifty people including the constitutional justices, the chief registrar, and the substitute registrars [have been vaccinated earlier],” he said on Saturday afternoon, March 13, 2021.

Guntur explained that the Court has made some preparations following vaccination procedure. He stressed that the physical conditions of the staff members will be a priority. To receive the vaccine, the staff must fulfill administrative requirements and are in a fit condition.

“We especially [focus on] the procedure, the physical conditions of the recipients, and the administrative checking. After everything is checked, the person will receive the vaccine. Despite wishing for it, one may not receive the vaccine if the administrative and physical requirements are not met,” he said.

Guntur hoped the program would run smoothly. He also hoped that staff members who have received the vaccine will keep complying with COVID-19 protocols. “I hope after getting the vaccine, [the staff members] do not feel they’re already immune [to COVID-19] because immunity will only be generated one month after vaccination. We have to wait for three to four weeks for the second dose. Only after that will immunity to COVID-19 be generated,” he said.

Four Stages

The Ministry of Health’s director of traditional healthcare Wiendra Waworuntu observed the preparation in person. She said the ministry had prepared four stages of vaccination procedure.

“First, we apply a screening at the front desk. Second, we will check the recipient’s temperature and blood pressure. Third, we will give the vaccine. Fourth, we will make an observation 30 minutes [after the jab]. This is the COVID-19 vaccination procedure in state ministries/agencies,” she said.

On its website, the Ministry of Health stated that the government has started the second stage of COVID-19 vaccine rollout since February 17, 2021 for public sector workers and people over 60. The second rollout is expected to be completed in May. It targets 38.5 million people—16.9 public sector workers and 21.5 senior citizens.

People falling in the public sector category are educators (teachers and lecturers), market traders, religious figures, legislative members, state officials, government employees, personnel of the Indonesian Defense Forces (TNI) and the Indonesian National Police (Polri), public service officers (village officers, firefighters, and employees of state- and region-owned enterprises), public transportation officers, athletes, reporters, and those working in tourism sector (hotels, restaurants, and tourist destinations).
