JAKARTA, Public Relations of the Constitutional Court—The Constitutional Court (MK) organized a socialization on curbing COVID-19 escalation on Friday, December 11, 2020 virtually. Health and medical corps Col. Stefanus Donny, the operation coordinator of COVID-19 temporary hospital Wisma Atlet, delivered a presentation on “Prevention of the Spread of COVID-19.” He urged 228 staff members and employees of the Constitutional Court to understand the efforts to prevent the spread of COVID-19 at the workplace, public places, and home.
Donny said COVID-19 first started in China and the end of 2019 and spread to Indonesia in March 2020. On March 27, 2020, the athletes’ village Wisma Atlet was made a COVID-19 temporary hospital. He said the virus spreads rapidly through droplets and contact with objects with droplets containing the virus. Therefore, people are urged to wash their hands often and correctly as well as wear a mask and maintain safe distance as the first measures against infection.
“To maintain safety amid the pandemic, during the trip to and from the workplace, ensure you are in good health, wear a mask, use your elbow to push elevator buttons, and keep a 1-meter distance to avoid droplets. In public areas, apply 3M,” he explained.
COVID-19 Prevention in Society
Donny said the COVID-19 mitigation team at Wisma Atlet has made efforts to reduce mortality rate, to improve recovery rate, and to prevent the spread of the virus. The team strives to curb COVID-19 escalation among patients, as more patients come in than out of the temporary hospital.
Donny said in the initial period of the outbreak, especially in DKI Jakarta, activities in the community greatly influenced the number of COVID-19 patients. Come holidays, he said, positive cases among productive age increased. This is allegedly due to the high activity of the community outside of home. "So, staying at home is very influential and a focus in preventing the spread of this virus," he Donny.
He urged the community to exercise 3M—wear a mask, wash hands properly, maintain safe distance. He also urged routine home cleaning with disinfectant, especially objects that are frequently used, as well as maintaining endurance and adopting clean and healthy lifestyle.
Donny also advised to avoid in-person meetings at the workplace, not to sit close together, to postpone official trips, to maintain a 2-meter distance, to bring lunch, to avoid public transportation, and to limit gatherings. Workers working from home (WFH) must not travel outside the house without urgency, optimize air circulation, maintain etiquette when coughing and sneezing, separate family members who are sick to avoid transmission to other members, and in case of suspected COVID-19, consult with health workers via telemedicine.
Constitutional Court Regulations
In his remarks, Secretary-General M. Guntur Hamzah said the Court had prepared regulations to curb the spread of COVID-19, for example the Decree No. 97 of 2020 on the Formation of COVID-19 Mitigation Task Force. The task force has COVID-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs) for constitutional justices, staff members, and employees. When someone’s COVID-19 test comes back positive, they are referred to the Wisma Atlet and/or to self-isolate. The task force also provides all staff and employees with multivitamins and other healthcare facilities to support strict implementation of health protocols.
The Court also does 3T (testing, tracing, and treatment) and spread the 10 points of health protocol. It will also implement strict health protocols for the upcoming the 2020 pilkada result dispute settlement to petitioners or justice seekers that intend to come to the Court.
“Any incoming person will be screened for temperature and disinfected. Every two hours of hearings, public areas will be disinfected. Most importantly, all staff and guests must maintain a safe distance,” he explained.
The presentation was followed by a Q&A session. The socialization was expected to improve the staff and employees’ knowledge of COVID-19. Hopefully it would help them to be able to take measures to curb the spread of COVID-19 and to take the steps to ensure the safety of all staff and employees.
