JAKARTA, Public Relations of the Constitutional Court—The Constitutional Court (MK) received an award from the Central Information Commission (KIP) as a public agency in the category of “near-transparent.” The award was handed over by KIP chair I Gede Narayana before Vice President Ma’ruf Amin. Secretary-General M. Guntur Hamzah witnessed it virtually from his office on the 11th floor.

Gede Narayana said in his remarks that 10 years after Law No. 14 of 2008 on Public Information Disclosure was passed, many public agencies still haven’t complied with it. Although transparency was demanded since 2010, the KIP’s assessment of public agencies in 2020—carried out by eight jury members comprising academics, researchers, and activists in information transparency and mass media—showed that only 17.43 percent or 60 public agencies were already transparent, while 9.77 percent or 34 agencies were near-transparent.

“The percentage of [public agencies] within the categories of ‘sufficiently transparent,’ ‘less transparent,’ and even ‘not transparent’ is still concerning, so it must be underlined that public information disclosure in Indonesia is still far from the goal mandated by the Law on Public Information Disclosure,” Gede said. This, he added, is a common goal for the Government, public agencies, and the KIP.

Based on the KIP’s assessment, public agencies scoring between 90-100 were deemed “transparent,” 80-89.9 “near transparent,” 60-79.9 “sufficiently transparent,” 40-59.9 “less transparent,” and 0-39.9 “not transparent.” Some scored under 10, even 0. Meanwhile, the Constitutional Court received a score of 82.09.
