JAKARTA, Public Relations of the Constitutional Court—The Constitutional Court (MK) held the National Heroes Day ceremony on Tuesday morning, November 10, 2020 at the Court’s yard amid the COVID-19 pandemic. All Constitutional Court officials and staff members attended the ceremony both offline and online. The Head of the Legal and Registrar Administration Tatang Garjito opened the ceremony with an expression of gratitude to God, followed by a moment of silence to honor the fallen heroes who have given their lives in service of the country.

Tatang said that the public shouldn’t only remember national heroes, who fought for the independence, on November 10, but all the time. This echoed the theme of the commemoration of the National Heroes Day in 2020 “My Heroes of All Time.”

“What the heroes did should inspire and motivate us to continue their fight. In the past, [they] took up arms, but now we fight against national issues such as poverty, natural disasters, drugs abuse, radicalism, and the COVID-19 pandemic,” Tatang said.

Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, he added, the National Heroes Day was observed in earnest and serenely, without losing its meaning. It can even provide additional energy to arouse awareness of all elements of the nation to unite in prioritizing national unity and integrity. Heroic values such as belief in God Almighty, willingness to sacrifice, refusal to giving up, helpfulness, and mutual assistance should be maintained and nurtured so that they can grow in the heart and soul of every Indonesian.

We can use the spirit of heroism, Tatang said, as a driving force to fill independence to realize the ideals of the founding fathers. If every Indonesian is imbued with the spirit and values of heroism, Indonesian will be able to solve various problems.

"On this occasion, I urge all Indonesians to participate in commemorating the National Heroes Day 2020 to appreciate the heroes for their services. As stated by one of our founding fathers, Soekarno, only a nation that respects the services of its heroes can become a great nation. We will continue the struggle of the heroes by unifying, working together, continuing the independence, and building the country. Do not waste the struggle of the heroes who sacrificed their body and soul for the sake of the motherland," Tatang said.
